Footballers are now built like athletes that wouldn’t look out of place at the Olympics and long gone are the days of boozing and partying being rife in the game.

Cristiano Ronaldo is described as having the perfect physique to be the best player in the world, but not everyone in the sport’s history has been so disciplined with the pies.

Here’s the 10 fattest players of all time:

      10. Andy Reid

For a winger – a position usually dedicated to pace and speed – former Tottenham Hotspur and Charlton Athletic midfielder Reid has a little too much going on in the tummy area.

      9. Micky Quinn

If there’s ever been a better example of a player who looks like someone’s Dad from an old photo album we’d love to see it.

      8. Kevin Pressman

Luckily for goalkeepers they have the excuse of being able to fill up more of the goal as to why they don’t require draw strings on their shorts

      7. Jan Molby

Part of the impressive Denmark side of the 1980s and 1990s and was brilliant at Liverpool, so people overlooked the tum tum.

      6. Neville Southall

Like Pressman this Everton legend was a man mountain but darned good at keeping the ball out of the net – so have another eclair.

      5. John Hartson

This former Arsenal, Aston Villa and Celtic striker even had a song, ‘Fat John Hartson’ named after the Welshman’s rotund physical presence.

      4. Thomas Brolin

Leeds United felt a little hard done by when they signed this super Swede in 1995, only to discover the attacking midfielder had raided the biscuit barrel.

      3. Adriano

The Brazilian struggled with weight issues when at Inter Milan, but still looked like a basketball player, but has absolutely ballooned since leaving.

      2. Ferenc Puskas

Part of the Hungary (get it?) side in the 1950s that was the best team never to win the World Cup, but was a bit porky when signing for Real Madrid in 1957 – although is considered one of the best players of all time, so what do we know?

      1. The Portuguese star may have the best physique, but the Brazilian – who was no less talented – has seriously struggled to fit into kits for some time.

I really wonder if Thomas made a mistake choosing a career path that he initially thought was politics.

One wonders what kind of extra terrestrial food they feed on.
