ROGER FEDERER overcome his old adversary Rafael Nadal in a classic semi-final to set up a fascinating Wimbledon final against Novak Djokovic.

This game had been hyped up before the tournament even began when they were put in the same side of the draw, and it certainly lived up to the billing in the first set.

Neither player wanted to give anything away in the first set as they went toe-to-toe for the first time on Centre Court since their epic final in 2008.

It eventually went to a tie-break with Federer, who held a 5-1 advantage over the Spaniard in such situations at Wimbledon, going on to take the early lead.

Then the 37-year-old oddly capitulated in the second set as Nadal stormed to draw the match level, winning 6-1.

Maybe Federer was conserving energy though as he immediately took an early break in the third, consolidated and regained his one-set lead with a vintage display.

The fourth followed in a similar pattern as Federer took an early break. Nadal battled hard to stay in the match and even had opportunities towards the end to break.

The Spaniard pushed Federer all the way in his final service game, with Nadal saving a total of five match points, but the sixth proved one too many for the two-time Wimbledon champion.

Now Federer will move on to Sunday's final to take on Novak Djokovic in what is set to be a similarly thrilling encounter.
