The battle of the NBA's top two teams turned into a one-sided affair Monday night as the Golden State Warriors snapped the San Antonio Spurs' 13-game win streak with relative ease,120-90, to remain undefeated at home.

The defending NBA champions scored 62 points in the first half behind an effective and efficient offense (59 percent shooting), and a stifling defense. The Warriors limited the Tim Duncan-less Spurs to 44 percent from the floor and forced 17 first-half turnovers to take a 15-point lead at the break. And the rout continued from there. After notching 19 points in just under 18 minutes during the first half, reigning MVP Stephen Curry turned it up a level with a highlight reel third quarter. Curry scored 18 points in 10:54 of the third frame, going 5 of 9 from the floor and 3 of 5 from three-point land to earn a courtside seat for the remainder of the game.

Curry finished the night with 37 points on 12 of 20 shooting (6 of 9 from three-point range) in 28 minutes, producing his highest scoring output ever against the Spurs.

The 30-point loss was San Antonio's worst since a 137-97 defeat against the Trail Blazers in Portland on Feb. 21, 2012.

At 41-4, the Warriors have matched the best start through 45 games in NBA history(Chicago Bulls, 1995-96; Philadelphia 76ers, 1966-67).

As a Spurs fan, this defeat really is hard to swallow for varying reasons. First, no bragging rights (though trivial). Second, we lost a psychological advantage that could prove useful in the play-offs and the margin of this defeat will no doubt aggravate GSwarriors's confidence. Third, we can't rely on Duncan forever; he's no longer 20 for goodness sake. We really do need some fresh blood in our offensive dept.
