Arsenal have offered Leicester City star Riyad Mahrez a four-year deal and are closer to signing the Algerian after he gave up hope of a move to Barcelona, according to reports in Spain.

The Gunners were interested in signing Mahrez last summer but he opted to sign a new deal with the Foxes after their historic Premier League title victory in 2016.

However, the Algerian released a statement shortly after the end of last season to confirm that he will be leaving the King Power Stadium this summer and he’s attracted interest from home and abroad.

The 26-year-old had favoured a move to La Liga giants Barcelona but the Catalans are focusing their attention on signing Paris Saint-Germain star Marco Verratti.

According to Spanish outlet AS, Mahrez has given up on his dream to move to the Nou Camp and now favours a move to the Emirates.

The report claims Arsenal have offered Mahrez a four-year deal and say the transfer could even be completed this week, though that appears unlikely.

Wenger is determined to add to his squad this summer and has chased ambitious moves for Alexandre Lacazette and Kylian Mbappe.

The likes of Olivier Giroud and Kieran Gibbs could leave the Gunners, while the club are doing all they can to convince Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez to commit to new deals.
