Ex-boxer Amir Khan was forced to apologise to Nigerian-born world heavyweight champion, Anthony Joshua, for accusing him of cheating with his wife after he was threatened with legal action.

The heavyweight boxer got his advisers involved after a series of sensational tweets in which Khan shared supposed messages between Joshua and his wife online, MailOnline has reported.

Earlier on Friday, Khan’s ex-wife, Faryal Makhdoom, broke her silence on the public spat to reveal the Snapchat messages between her and Anthony Joshua were fake, adding that she had never met Joshua.

“The screenshots sent to Amir were “fake” and Amir thought Joshua and I were speaking… when we have never even met.

“Anger took the better of him and he tweeted away without thinking there was absolutely NO truth to it.

“It’s all cleared up with both teams now and again, there was NOTHING like that going on. Apologies for all this nonsense. Let’s get on with life now…”

Amir then retweeted his wife’s note, then personally messaged Joshua, adding:”Glad all is cleared up and all lies. I got angry like any man would. No truth to it. Good to know. All the best.”

The British heavyweight champion would later reply to Khan, writing: “Apology accepted
