The first Premier League manager of the season has been ‘sacked’.

Paul Heckingbottom has become the Premier League’s first managerial casualty of the season, according to the club’s owner Prince Abdullah Bin Mosaad Al Saud.

Speaking on TalkSPORT, Prince Abdullah announced the departure of Paul Heckingbottom and the appointment of Chris Wilder.

Nothing has been announced on the club’s official channel’s at this point.

Former United boss Wilder guided the side to 9th in the 2019/2020 campaign, their first season in the Premier League since 2006/07.

Meanwhile, Heckingbottom was dismissed after his side’s 5-0 defeat to Burnley at the weekend.

It saw the Blades drop to the foot of the Premier League table, having won just one of the 14 top-flight games. conceded the most goals (39) and scored the fewest (11) across the league.

United are the first Premier League side to dismiss a manager this season, a stark contrast to last term when Scott Parker was sacked by Bournemouth after only four games.

Since being promoted, United have only accumulated five points and endured some humiliating results. The 8-0 defeat by Newcastle United in September was United’s worst-ever loss at Bramall Lane.

The club were also beaten 5-0 by Arsenal at the Emirates in October.

At this stage in the season United have recorded fewer points than Derby County managed in their infamous 11-point 2007/08 campaign.

According to Oddschecker, Erik ten Hag is now the the next most-likely manager to be sacked, having overseen a dismal start to the Premier League season for Manchester United, both domestically and in Europe.
