InactiveMauricio Pochettino would not automatically accept the Manchester United job if offered it, with the Tottenham Hotspur manager having several reservations about leave north London.
The Argentine is United’s first-choice to replace Jose Mourinho permanently despite caretaker boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer making an impressive start to life at Old Trafford, winning his first five matches.
According to The Times, Pochettino has become ‘angered’ and ‘irritated’ by reports suggesting he will walk away from Tottenham and is far from sold on moving to United just yet.
Furthermore, he does not consider a move to Manchester to be his decision alone to make, and will consult his family and coaching staff – who would all have to move with him.
That has created a potential complication, with both of Pochettino’s sons, Sebastiano and Maurizio, employed by Spurs.
The former is a sports scientist for the north Londoners – the youngest in the Premier League – while the latter plays for Tottenham’s academy.
Pochettino, who signed a five-year contract in the summer, is also happy and settled at Spurs despite concerns over a lack of transfer activity and enjoys working with the club’s gifted academy.
That long-term contract also gives Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy a huge amount of bargaining power.
United would need to pay the £34million value of Pochettino’s remaining contract merely as a starting point, plus the contracts of his staff, with Levy expected to demand the biggest ever compensation fee for a manager.
