Juventus confirm Aaron Ramsey interest

Juventus have confirmed they are interested in signing Aaron Ramsey when the Arsenal midfielder’s contract expires at the end of the season.

Fabio Paratici, the Juventus sporting director, said the club is “attentive” to Ramsey’s situation and praised the midfielder as a “great player”.

As of the start of this month, Ramsey is able to negotiate and sign a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club.

It has been reported that Bayern Munich and Inter Milan are among the clubs who have also taken an interest in Ramsey, and Paratici said Juventus were not only side looking to secure the Welshman’s services for next season.

“He is a great player, he is in a great team like Arsenal and he has played at high levels for many years,” Paratici told Sky in Italy. “His contract is going to expire and we are alert to all market situations, it’s our duty, so we are attentive to him.

“This is all to be verified, for now he is an Arsenal player. We are certainly not the only ones in the market.”

Arsenal withdrew their offer of a new contract to Ramsey, the club’s longest-serving player, in September for a combination of footballing and financial reasons.

The club’s wage bill is currently stretched to its limits following the signings of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan in January, and the decision to award Mesut Ozil a new deal worth around £350,000 a week.

Ramsey scored Arsenal’s third goal in their 4-1 victory over Fulham on Tuesday, prompting chants of “sign him up” from sections of the home crowd.

Arsenal expect Ramsey to stay in north London until the end of the season as they are unlikely to find a buyer who is willing to pay a large enough transfer fee now, rather than waiting to sign the midfielder for free in the summer.

If he were to move to Turin, the 28-year-old would become the latest in a series of high-profile free signings that Juventus have made in recent years.

This summer they signed German midfielder Emre Can on a free deal from Liverpool, while the likes of Dani Alves and Sami Khedira have both been recruited at the end of their contracts in previous transfer windows.
